A Summer of Growth, New Faces, and New Beginnings

It has been a little while since the last post, and for a very good reason! Summer in the Gestal Lab has been exciting, productive, and very busy. For us, summer always brings new faces, new ideas, new projects, lots of data, and, most importantly, new opportunities to grow together.

We were very fortunate to have Adrian join us as an undergraduate summer student. He truly embraced the research experience, performing an impressive amount of experimental work while also learning how to transform individual results into a scientific story. He concluded his summer with an outstanding presentation in our seminar series, clearly communicating his findings and demonstrating just how much he had accomplished in a short period of time. We are incredibly proud of him!.

We are very excited to welcome Madison, our new Research Associate, to the Gestal Lab! Madison brings substantial research experience to the team, together with expertise in bioinformatics that will expand our capabilities and add a new dimension to our research. We are very lucky to have her, and I cannot wait to see the science that will emerge as she integrates her expertise with the many projects already underway in the lab. Welcome to the Gestal family, Madison!

The end of summer has also brought new graduate students through our doors. Kevin recently completed a rotation with us, and tomorrow we welcome Hayden and Samyra, who will spend the coming weeks experiencing life, and science, in the Gestal Lab.

Perhaps one of my favorite parts of all this growth has been watching my PhD students, Jose and Katie, continue to grow as mentors themselves. Seeing them teach, guide, troubleshoot alongside younger trainees, and celebrate their mentees' successes is a reminder that mentorship is legacy. We do not simply train scientists; we help train the next generation of mentors.

There has been a lot to celebrate this summer: new people, successful projects, new data, growing responsibilities, and plenty of memories. But more than anything, I celebrate us, the people who make the Gestal Lab what it is.I am incredibly fortunate to have this team. Now, back to our routine, plenty of science, and, more blog posts to come!
