ASM Microbe 2026 was an incredible experience and a wonderful reminder of the power of scientific community. I was honored to be selected to present our work, sharing research from the Gestal Lab. The opportunity to discuss our findings, receive thoughtful feedback, and engage in stimulating scientific conversations was one of the highlights of the meeting.

Beyond the presentation itself, Microbe provided a unique opportunity to reconnect with mentors who have helped shape my career, strengthen existing collaborations, and establish new friendships and professional connections. Many of the most exciting ideas in science begin as conversations, and this meeting created countless opportunities for those conversations to happen.

One of the aspects I value most about ASM Microbe is its ability to bring together scientists from many different disciplines. Some of the most productive discussions occur when researchers with different areas approach the same problem from new perspectives. These multidisciplinary interactions often lead to innovative collaborations and open doors to entirely new research directions.

This year’s format was particularly impressive. The Mechanisms of Discovery track featured an outstanding lineup of established leaders and rising stars, showcasing cutting-edge research and providing insight into where the field is headed next. The quality of the science and the enthusiasm of the participants made for a truly engaging experience.

I left the meeting energized, inspired, and excited about both ongoing and future projects.

Already looking forward to ASM Microbe 2027 in Chicago.
